Welcome to my web site, the home of John Paradise therapy. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist. As a psychotherapist in Exeter I offer a safe, secure and non judgmental place in which you can be heard and be felt to be heard and seen. Whatever the issues are that you bring I am here to help you feel better in how you live your life. I place a great deal of importance on my therapeutic relationship with clients, for it is through this trusting relationship that healthy and lasting change occurs.
Many of my clients are men and I specialise in working with men and issues that affect a man’s mental, emotional or psychological well being.
If you are a man considering therapy call me on 07768 134537
I offer counselling in Exeter and Paignton. I also work voluntarily as a therapist at the Iron Mill College in Exeter. The Iron Mill offers a low cost counselling service.
Psychotherapy – I am a registered full clinical member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a Registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (Reg MBACP). For people on low income I have some concessionary rates available. I have a particular interest in helping men and believe that there are issues particular (but not exclusive) to men. Closed emotions, sexuality, anger, relationships, separation from children are just some of the things among many that affect men. My work however focuses on helping anyone feel better in how they live life.
Man Therapy – Therapy for Men. As a male and a male therapist I am aware that there are many issues that are particular to a man’s mental health. The biggest challenge facing men’s mental health is being male. There is huge inequality in men’s mental health. I specialise in working with male clients, offering therapy for men and helping them to make the changes they want to in their life. There are many aspects to maleness and masculinity that impact upon the well being of men. The therapy for men I provide offers a professional, safe, secure and confidential talking therapy (psychotherapy).
Counselling – Counselling usually refers to shorter-term support for people who are dealing with a particular difficulty, maybe a relationship breakdown or redundancy, whereas psychotherapy refers to longer-term, deeper psychological work around difficulties that may be long-standing and not linked to any particular event. Counselling can help you deal with short term difficulties in your life.
Couples Therapy – I work with couples who are experiencing difficulty in their relationship. Problems in relationship can often be present for some time before they become significant enough to seek help with. I offer a safe, secure, confidential and non judge-mental place in which to be heard.
Men’s Group – I will be starting a men’s group in Exeter if there is enough demand. Group therapy is also a very cost effective way of accessing therapy. Please contact me if you would like to join this group or to know more. The fee is £20 for each 90 minute group session. Group therapy offers a confidential, safe place to share and discuss problems you currently face in your life. There are additional benefits to group therapy that individual therapy cannot offer, such as sharing concerns with other men who maybe experiencing similar issues to YOU. Such as separation from your children, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger, post-traumatic stress disorder, abuse, and problems in relationships or general dissatisfaction in life.
